Description
This course focuses on the rising call for integrating nature-based solutions for addressing global environmental issues of biodiversity loss, climate change, and disaster risk reduction.

Part One: Foundations of Urban Nature. The first part of the curriculum establishes a broad understanding regarding the evolving concept of cities and nature. Focus on land use planning, it aims to lay theoretical foundation, encompassing landscape ecology and urban ecology, as well as green infrastructure proposition.

Part Two: Strategic Green Infrastructure Planning. The second part of class delves into research and practices on strategic Green Infrastructure planning, management, governance, and implementation across cities. Students will learn how multiple ecosystem functions can be optimized by strategic land use planning so as to enhance climate resilience and sustainability. This includes three thematic topics: biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation and local governance.

The course incorporates case study, site visits, and project-based learning to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications.
