Description
This course provides an introduction to natural hazard damage assessment and economic analysis, which are critical components of risk management. The course covers the methods and tools used to assess the economic impact of natural hazards, and to estimate the cost of damage caused by these hazards. Student will learn the theoretical framework for cost-benefit analysis, as well as the concept and application of the damage assessment with respect to different disasters. Policy issues, concepts in statistical analysis, and risk and uncertainty methods used in the evaluation will be emphasized in the course. These knowledges enable students to plan an effective damage assessment program and conduct rapid and effective damage assessments in order to save lives, protect property and the environment, and begin the process of recovery and mitigation.
